MEET OUR FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Dr. Vera Walker Hawkins is the founder and executive producer of Veracity Media, driven by a foundational belief that children are thinkers, creators, and meaning makers. She champions the idea that when children’s voices and imaginations are centered, learning becomes an act of discovery rather than memorization.
She serves as Interim Chair of the Department of Journalism in the School of Communication at Texas Southern University, where her academic leadership complements her work in media and education. Dr. Hawkins’s research focuses on digital inclusion, media empowerment for children and their communities, and the intersections of media influence, new media, transmedia storytelling, and literacy across K-20 contexts.
Her professional practice spans roles as an educator, media scholar, and learning experience designer. In these capacities, she views storytelling not as entertainment alone but as a bridge between imagination and insight. Through narrative and media, she supports children in exploring complex ideas, asking deeper questions, and seeing themselves as capable contributors to the world around them.
Dr. Hawkins’s work extends beyond scholarship to community engagement and program design that advocates for the intellectual and creative capacities of children. She continues to build networks of educators and media practitioners who share a commitment to transformative learning experiences.
